Public bug reported: I was running Ubuntu 7.10 without any trouble on a FS Amilo Xi 2528 notebook. When I tried to install the alpha version of 8.04, I encountered this error while the installer copied the base system to the hard drive. At first I thought I could have used a corrupt iso image, so I tried re-installing 7.10 with the same CD I used last time. But again, I got the same error. I tried several CDs of several versions of Ubuntu but the result was always the same.
I booted a live CD and searched google for the error. I found several threads with the same problem, and all the other users encountered this error with a notebook and Ubuntu 7.10 or higher. I tried several other distributions and they all worked fine. But with Ubuntu, I could repeat the problem. When I install any other distribution and then perform Ubuntu installation again, it works. A second Ubuntu installation afterwards always brings up the problem. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [ErrNo5] Input/Output error while installing https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/199125 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
