I figured it out...There is a firmware update on SIerra's site. I
applied that and now it works. Unfortunately, you will need a winders or
mac machine to update the fw

As of Intrepid, it seems that a decision was made to compile packages
requiring SSL / TLS support with GNU TLS instead of OpenSSL. This can
cause problems for users in ordinary situations, e.g. see

This seems to happen almost randomly, I was only aware of it because of
the popup offering to send a bug report and crash dump.
The only thing it seems to correlate with is it happens a little while
after running Synpatic to update.
I'm running Intrepid amd64.

/etc/kernel/postinst.d/nvidia-common which in turn uses a Python script
called /usr/bin/nvidia-detector which in turn uses a Python module that
wasn't there.

Ubuntu 8.04. I can install ubuntu-xen-desktop packages, but when I
reboot, dbus fails to start with a segmentation fault and thus I cannot

Let me know if you'd like me to dig further and figure out what it's
doing.
The use of an entry in /etc/hosts that says "127.0.0.1 " is a bad
practice in TCP/IP, it would be nice if Ubuntu did not have to do this.

This happened the first time it polled the server and each and every

kind of funkified host lookup.
Note that it is considered very bad TCP/IP practice to put your own
hostname on 127.0.0.1 Ubuntu seems to do a hack and add a line for

As per the forums, this is a 64-bit laptop, and the 64-bit Live CD "Try
Ubunut" mode works perfectly on it, but when installed to disk the Grub
boot loader doesn't work.
I selected the option to resize the Windows partition and install Linux,
and it did everything perfectly,

Obviously an initialization bug on the kernel side, probably due to a
quirky BIOS setup.
Workaround is to use the old Linux 0.99 trick ... boot Windows and then
soft boot Ubuntu, or downgrade all the way to 3.0.x kernel and Nvidia
10x driver.

ThinkPad W510 with Nvid
The last update to libpng3 in Lucid release on 28/7/2011 to version
1.2.42 appears to have caused this same problem. According to the
package install log, the install completed successfully and the libpng3
package status is reported as installed OK.
The result in this case was to break my Canon M
This problem has reappeared with "Ubuntu Firefox Modifications 0.9rc2"
to Firefox 3.6.13 on Ubuntu 10.04. Disabling this add-on fixes the
problem, else all users see Ask.com as the only search engine. I must
agree with others that this is a very annoying bug, as it is not at all
obvious how to fi
I forgot to add that the symbolic link for "common" in /usr/lib/firefox-
addons/searchplugins needs to be changed to "en-US" instead of "." or
there are no search engines available at all! (See bug #520682).

errors, fglrx graphic driver, var/cache/apt/archives/ubuntustudio-
