Thanks Jason, after that comment I've tried to narrow the cause of the
problem and have boiled it down to $HOME/.drirc which I have created
with driconf at some point in time. Removing it fixes this bug for me on
my system running on GMA-950 with the open source intel video driver.

I have just accomplished the migration from Lucid to Meerkat in Evolution as
well.
The problem was that I did not have enoguh disk space, when I created the backup
from evo, it did not warn me, so I thought everything was all right...
