Is there any progress on this issue? Really, espeak is unusable in
ubuntu jaunty. As i noted above, in alpha6 this issue didn't exist, so
we can just downgrade to previous portaudio ubuntu package.
Also, why this bug isn't noted in jaunty's release notes?

Collided with the same problem. First, on Ubuntu 8.10. Hoped to fix in the
Ubuntu 9.04 ... But no.
The problem arises not only from the ext2 partition, but with a file named
casper-rw.
Alex Roper, did you read this thread? https: / / bugs.launchpad.net / ubuntu /
+ source / casper / + bug/1257
I think we should start from the fact that the "casper-rw was not cleanly
UNMOUNTED". If the casper-rw in general has been unmounted... I am not an
expert, but I think, that we have a bug in the scripts(?), responsible for
starting and stopping system ...
Here is my e2fsck output:

problem? I understand that we need to fix the scripts in filesystem.squashfs on
our USB-flash drives? Please, expl
Thank you very much for the help, Steve!
I would try. I will write as act in Jaunty.
I hope soon I can sleep peacefully ... :)

Hi edgar,
The actual portaudio bug in question exists, you found just a
workaround: compile espeak with pulseaudio backend instead of portaudio
backend. You've got a working espeak, but portaudio still doesn't work
correctly. You can test it with other programs, which use portaudio for
sound outpu
I can confirm this bug. I have Toshiba Tecra M10, and also doesn't have

Oh... I'm sorry... "casper-rw was not cleanly unmounted" only appears after
the first reboot. Now everything is OK. I'm still have two errors on
shutdown/reboot, but after it "casper-rw clean".
Ha-ha! It's working! :) Thank you, Steve! Great job!
