I've been fighting with this bug for the past few months as well.
I find it very curious that it is, predictably, every -other- login attempt.
I've tried the work-around using 2.20, but that gave me the "low
graphics mode" runaround. I'll fiddle with it some more later... Or

went to try network-manager, and discovered it was already installed and
running. After removing network-manager, and re-installing wicd, it

I'm seeing this bug multiple times a day these days. Using gnome-session
with xmonad, and sakura as my terminal. Seems to happen sometimes when I
switch workspaces, and sometimes when I lock/unlock the screen.
