Ah hah, that must be it. I suspected dpkg was getting the wrong
conflicts information somewhere, and that must be it.
Also I'll note that there is no way to have both wine and wine1.2
installed in Karmic, so the modified title is wrong.

I had this one affect me. A fun workaround I discovered was to prevent
the CPU from getting hot by placing my laptop on top of a cooling rack.
No heating -> no overheating -> no excessive logging -> no full disk ->

Does this still happen? I've had both cups-bsd and ia32-libs installed
on 9.10 release, and there were no file conflicts.
It may have simply gone away during one of the regular "freshen every
package" builds that ia32-libs got (and thus the source of the problem
was likely an out of date i386 cup
By the way my current workflows gets around the above issue entirely: I
upload the source package to a PPA, and then it spews out .changes files
for each binary that don't refer to the .diff.gz

I received my laptop with a windows installation on its first hard disk.
I installed Jaunty on the second disk and never booted into Windows on
the first, so I guess it was dual boot of sorts (albeit entirely

Make it clear that -proposed is less safe than -backports

Currently it is too easy to select the proposed repository without
realizing that it contains potential regressions (as uploads are
untested). Similarly, backports is a bit too scary as it's
"unsupported", when in truth it's about as well supported as universe
(ie "supported
The components appear to be in a reasonable order now (Main, Universe,
Restricted, Multiverse). I'm going to mark this fixed released, unless
for some reason the order is inconsistent (which a set might do in
python).

The problem comes from invalid keys. Writing "vm.nmap_min_adr" is an
invalid key as it should be "vm.mmap_min_addr"

Where's the duplication? Everything in you sysctl.conf file is
commented out. Also there were two typos in your original post (n->m
and only one d).
Granted, it's a problem that typos could even cause it to fail to
install - invalid keys shouldn't break the package install. I can work
