I am seeing this issue on 24.10.
I was using wayland where something similar was happening until roughly
a week ago when it got so bad that I could not log in successfully for 4
or 5 attempts. With Xorg it seemed better at first, but it appears to be
just random. Just today I got the issue 3 times

which was failing to build from source on all architectures.
Looking at the log it appears it is failing to link against libcrypt and

As others said before, this bug is present again in Jammy, at least
using the new 6.8.0.52 kernel.
As Virtualbox 7 is not available for this release (afaik), is some fix
expected so that we can continue using Virtualbox?

The root cause is an integer failing to cast to a usize. Fish 4.0.1
handles it differently and should work.
Tbh you can skip 4.0.0, 4.0.1 is a patch release.

2.3.1 just came out a couple of days ago and is still in Debian
unstable. I was a bit more comfortable taking 2.3.0 instead as it’s been
in Debian for a bit longer.
