After investigating what usrmerge does, I concluded that the problem is due to
my configuration. I use eclipse to manage some system files and this created a
.project file in directories /lib and /usr/lib, preventing that usrmerge can
merge this directories.

firmware preventing the package from accessing EFI variables.
But it is unrelated to the problem you're reporting regarding third-
party software installation. For that, we should reassign this bug to

I think the main issue here is the erratic wifi reception, so that's a
kernel bug (or hardware or environmental). The GUI design is
understandably annoying in this case, but it's of secondary concern and
I can't find evidence of other people having the same problem. So low
priority for gnome-shell.

That would be strange. After systemctl hibernate, the system went into
hibernation, I got the resume message while booting and the system state
was restored just as before hibernation. The system was not just
suspended. I had to go through grub and the hard disk decryption

I re-ran the install into the other partition and HAD NO ISSUES at all.
Both installs booted & were as expected.
It's highly probable that the KERNEL PANIC was a pre-existing condition
on the box.. (I need to know how to get a dump of all my reports from
iso.qa.ubuntu.com so I can search for my p
wiht 5.10-oem-1035, still have a chance that phylink couldn't be brought
up.
