Symptoms:
On login, the desktop takes a long time to load, and when it does, everything
blinks. It is possible (but difficult) to open a terminal and execute commands,
through the right-click desktop menu.
I first noticed the issue in mid-July of 2018.

I've upgraded today to 18.10, after fist reboot no audio and the UI only
shows a 'Dummy Device'.
With a "alsa force-reload" the sound become available, but after a reboot same
problem.

Can't a libgvfs-nfs package be created separate from libgvfs-backends,
the way Fedora does it? (https://apps.fedoraproject.org/packages/gvfs-
nfs) That way it could stay in universe also. (I do think it should be
included by default, but libnfs11 is still stuck in universe as of
18.10).

I got this problem as well. When the screen lock starts (due to time-out
or manually pushing the lock screen button), I will get a very fast
blinking cursor on a black screen.

We've noticed a regression for this in 18.10 - daily's and even GA.

Had same issue. Fixed by removing from `/etc/default/grub` the `nomodeset`
parameter from the `GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="nomodeset"`as to obtain:
`GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""` then run `sudo update-grub` and reboot the laptop

"ntpdate -d" sends packets using an unprivileged source port, so
a firewall could allow those packets but block outgoing
