Is there actually a fix for this issue? This problem has been going on for
well over a year now, and the stated solution ("for many people") below, does

Does the xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-utopic in this PPA still have the
same issue so we can narrow this down some? It is the vivid version
backported and I see a few interesting commits that could affect this in
there, but want to be sure it's actually fixed first.

I did it...but nothing. The problem is same. (Uninstall and reinstall
ubuntu restricted extras 63)
Can I send any logfile or other, that could help to you solve this
problem?
I installed the Xine player, and it works. Hmm...Weird...
But...I like...love VLC...It's my favourite!
Oh... and one more thing...
I forgot to mention that I tried reinstalling xorg like this:
sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
It didn't help.
I also tried sudo apt-get install focaltech-dkms just in case, but I had that
package already
It's higly annoying, half a year and the error still popps up every
update. I'll revert to Ubuntu 12, Ubuntu 14 has become a mayor delusion
- slow, constant updates with rebbot, like or worse than Windows.

There are no conequences. The older firmware simple did not announce
that feature, so it was not used at all. The newer tells: "Hey, it's me,
your ssd, I can do delayed trimming in combination with ncq" - but in
reality it does not support it at all.
So - to my knowledge - this was always disabled
I also tried #62, but it still drops connection on my Lenovo M30-70.
Anyway, this bug still exists on Ubuntu 15.04.
Non of the solutions worked so far :-(

If you have a Focaltech touchpad, then do this.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/focaltech-dkms
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install focaltech-dkms
The touchpad will work after reboot. That's it.

Another shot into the blue, what does "getent passwd | grep 1000" say?
Do you use any kind of remote user database (NIS, LDAP, etc.), or is
this a fairly standard desktop install? If you don't have any secret
user names or home directory names, would you mind attaching your
/etc/passwd and /etc/gro

I have the same problem. I installed again apt-get install gdm,
xubuntu-desktop, lubuntu-desktop however I haven't found a way to get
past the login screen.
