The issue seems to be that NetworkManager stores the connection
credentials within the keyring, which is not available at the Unity
greeter. Once logged in, the keyring is available to NetworkManager and
hence nm-applet will not ask for credentials again.

No. I encountered the problem in 12.04 and used boot-repair to fix it. I
couldn't do that again since boot-repair has not been released for
14.04. I never registered a bug before so I don't know what happens
next. If someone emails me with a fix I will forward it to you.

I thought so as well. So I installed the iso file to USB and ran the setup
from my USB device. But it stops at the same point, when copying that file.

setting a fullscreen attribute properly or something.
Running this will fix the behavior. Until we have a proper fix i've
just bound it to my harmony startup script when I press power.

You need to use dpkg-reconfigure grub-pc instead of grub-install
directly, so that the system knows that it needs to run grub-install on
that drive the next time grub is upgraded.
