I get a black screen for 5-10 seconds every time I logon after upgrading
to 13.10. I have this in ~/.xsession-errors

The problem was nvidia drivers from xorgs-edgers. Running "ppa-purge
xorg-edgers" removed all conflicting packages and allows upgrading. Case
closed.

After starting ubuntu the ubuntu-badge beside the username/password
field is missing. If i switch the user (up and down key) the icon is

I've tested this and got it working on almost every release since 2009. I
don't now recall if I got it working for raring or not. Jockey is having
other issues in saucy (See bug #1239298), so I'm not sure if it works there or
not.
