It turns out to be a caching issue.
When a region of the SSD is trimmed, that data is lost. However for some
unfathomable reason, Linux keeps the data in its caches. As a result,
the 2nd dd call returns wrong data, making it seem as if the TRIM didn't
work regardless whether it really did or not.
I tried with oneiric live on usb for more than 10 days without
reproducing. I figured out that the issue pretty occur on colds boots
(and resume from suspend/hibernate). I never had the issue again in
precise while it was booted by restarting from oneiric. Then, after
finishing the oneiric testings

I've tried the Final Beta of Ubuntu 13.10 and this still is a problem.
ubiquity will not show it's GUI upon clicking launcher icon or the one
on the desktop and the process is active in System Monitor.
I'm using a loopback boot option for the 13.10 and the "Try Ubuntu
without Installation" option.

Hi, we temporarily fixed this problem by edit file:
startupcache/test/TestStartupCache.cpp and add a "return 0;" in the beginning
of the main() function.
But the TestStartupCache.cpp program should still need some fixing as it have
some problem when running tests.
As this bug is still not fixed

After looking at /var/log/fontconfig.log I see the last entry is
/usr/share/fonts/truetype/google-fonts: Segmentation fault (core dumped)
Removing this folder then lets fontconfig complete.

Ok. So issue is most likely fixed in a newer release that haven't yet
reached Ubuntu. For some reason even saucy is using 0.6.0 only. Maybe I
should try to build the package from the newer source my self.
