I just removed Tracker from my Ubuntu 13.04 installation. The system was repeatedly locked by immense hard disk activity immediately after logon. It did not stop for about half an hour and made the GUI completely unusable. I had to log into a text terminal to apt-get remove tracker. The excessive hard disk access stopped at once.
