Does anyone know if a fix for this (for intel cards) ever make it into
kde 4.9.x? Or will it only come later on in 4.10? I really want to
switch to KDE but this is a dealbreaker for me :(.

Yeah, empathy can't move to 1.0 just yet because that would require
taking new versions of the farstream stack, which has knock-on effects
(a telepathy-farstream transition) that break some other (mainly KDE)
packages.
We should wait some time to get Kubuntu a chance to port their stuff.

The implementation should warn the user if the installation of the deb
file requires dependencies to be downloaded (i.e. all dependencies
should be installed).
Ideally the user should be able to select several deb files at once to
be installed that together satisfies all dependencies.

I just did a fresh install on 2 laptops that were working fine with
version 12.04. Both laptops have this issue with version 12.10. I've
tried commenting out dns=dnsmasq in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and creating a wrapper script
for dnsmasq that removes the --no-hosts option. Neith
