What you could try is to boot on a Quantal live cd image to verify that
it is not something strange in your installation.
Also it would be interesting to know if a 3.5/3.6/3.7 mainline kernels

After loging into XFCE environment, I see with "top" that /usr/share
/system-config-printer/applet.py consumes 22MB of physical memory, just
behind X.
Most of the time, the printer applet does nothing and thus wastes
memory.

I'm on a wacom 5 (Timo knows me already with a previous [pointer to left
corner] bug) and got exactly the same problem...was already on my way to
submit this bug for the intuos 5, but it seems this is a more general
problem and not specific to a version 4/5...

After loging in into the XCFE environment, I open a terminal and perform
a top.
If I sort the processes by decreasing resident memory, I see that
lightdm requires 32MB of memory, that is more than X !
Since lightdm just sleeps after login in, I think it is wasting memory.

Upgraded to 12.10 with gnome-shell and the same problem appears. The
issue occurs randomly without being able to understand what triggers it.
The proposed fix in #120 didn' work for me.
