Just out of curiosity I tried installing Lubuntu QQ alpha 3 on the
aforementioned hardware. All went fine other than one totally unrelated
ubiquity bug.
After installing I applied the available updates, I did NOT enable
"proposed", but then it's no longer able to boot into that old (circa
2007) VI
In my case this was caused by bluetooth being locked in the bios.
Allowing bluetooth solved it.

My suggestion is to try the Nouveau drivers instead (deactiviting the
Nvidia restricted drivers completely). My test system seems to run
stable with this choice. Nouveau drivers work well as long as you don't
need 3D games.

Your system doesn't use a NUTMEG chip. It uses TRAVIS for both VGA and
LVDS. Please attach a copy of your vbios:

This is a new issue, laptop boots just fine with 12.04 LTS.
This could be also something in the network-manager or modem-manager, as
in the 12.04 LTS the broadband does not work as it uses the usb ethernet
and the modem requires some AT commands to be sent in order to
initialize it. In the Quantal
It is indeed a bit ineffecient to withhold this driver for so long,
because since two weeks now I can not use Unity with the proprietary
drivers because of the incompatibility with X.ORG 1.13. This in turn
means that it is impossible for all testers using NVIDIA hardware to
test all the multi-monit
