accepted in upstream Conpiz.
We should check with design to see if they want it back. I think it
would be better to live without the glow and just improve the
brightness/saturation settings we use in expo.

In my experience, the NVIDIA driver is the most CPU-hungry of all the
graphics drivers. So that won't help.
I have similar performance problems on a very slow machine (not using NVIDIA).
On that system, I use this to speed up the rendering:
