I was using Chromium now, which according to some is pretty much the

confirm that deleting the empty file 'global-messages-db.sqlite-journal'
in my Thunderbird account folder resolved the issue.

Can't reproduce this on today's ISO images. This does not happen
frequently, not reproduced on earlier image either. Since it's a low-
frequency bug which I can't now reproduce I'm going to mark it as
invalid.

I agree it's got to be somewhere else. It would appear that it is not
hardware specific, not video card, nor monitor, nor kvm.
