in fustration I changed to tty1 Ctrl +Alt F1
then:
$ sudo stop kdm
$ rm -rf ~/.kde ~/.kderc /var/tmp/kdecache-
$ sudo start kdm
I lost all my customizaitons (~2 days of work), but at least now KDE is
working again. The error:

Using KDE 4.8 with the minimal 4.8 patch I sometimes still see
duplicated messages, but much less then before. And it looks like the
duplicates now always have content.

Every time i logged on, kactivitimanager crashed sooner or later. Also Kmail
crashes very often while using.
Virtuoso-t process consumes about 30% of my Quad-Core CPU load, although strigi
doesn't index anything.
I also noticed a strong delay when logging in, until kmix, klipper and strigi
symbo
You should really address only one issue per bug report.
The virtuoso problems you describe are well known, but you shouldn't mix
everything together. ;-)
