I already experimented a little with the nvidia driver. I switched to
current updates. I am running now version 295.49. It did not help. I
will try to install a generic driver and report then again. But first I
have to find out where to get a generic driver :)

I think that the behavior is expected, but perhaps I don't understand
what you are describing. eth0 is defined in /e/n/i and NetworkManager
is configured ([ifupdown] "managed=false") to ignore interfaces defined
in /e/n/i.

It looks like the maintainer scripts are trying to stop mysql, and this
hangs. I'm not sure why mysql can't stop. This could be a bug, or a
configuration or corruption problem specific to your server.

I'm glad someone finally found a *possible* solution to this, for a lack
of a better word, annoying issue. This is especially annoying when
having to ssh into the machine to 1) shutdown 2 VMs running, 2) attempt
