I am having a similar experience on a very recent install of 12.04
amd64. This exact series of events have happened twice for me, on two
different days:
I log in, and leave the computer for a while (screen locks during this
time). Come back; unlock screen and notice the update-manager icon

When I use sudo to run a command and enter one or more newline characters
before typing in my password the characters are shown. This happens both in

Quick update: I have noticed that if I reboot into Windows 7 after
booting into ubuntu without turning the machine off, Windows is not able
to see the SD Card reader. To fix this, I have to turn the machine off
and boot directly into Windows.

target received updates that required a restart. The cliprdr plugin is
working now, but I cannot confirm a correlation to rdpclip.exe.

12.04?
I suspect it will still fail, but there were changes that might have fixed
this issue.
It seems strange to me that DEBIAN_HAS_FRONTEND or DEBCONF_REDIR would

And it plays fine, showing MP3 ID tags too :)
