I found it still happens in Ubuntu 11.10 with Thunderbird 8.0. The
workaround is easy, disabling of GB language pack and manual
installation of US English language pack addon.

Same bug on OO with a 3.0 kernel.
I did a transfer of a very huge amount of data (>50GB) between two
computers linked through a Netgear router. The throughput was constant
around 11 MB/s. Just after disconnecting and immediately reconnecting
