Hi Bryce,
thanks for your reply. I upgraded to oneiric and I find that the problem
is fixed. In particular, after a few days of testing, I can confirm
that:
1) the laptop can boot properly when docked (no more X freezes)
2) the monitor preferences appled works ok and appears to be stable (no more
when I type

Please dont move this bug to g-p-m as "If you're running Oneiric you'll
notice that the Power Management was moved to GNOME Settings Daemon,
thus all the bugs affecting GNOME Power Manager in Oneiric are about the
