I attached a bug watch to a bug in Debian also requesting a newer version of this package. From what I can see version 2.533 has been made available in the experimental repository, but will be uploaded to unstable once the packages depending on older versions are sorted out. Once this is done, I assume it will be synced from Debian to Ubuntu at some point.
