I am seeing the exact same problem which exists with both vim-gtk and
vim-gnome.
A workaround is to install vim-athena which is incredibly ugly but at
least it works.
I can also confirm that removing .vimrc files makes no difference.

I have two Ubuntu 11.04 machines. One with Unity and one with Gnome3.
Ekiga runs fine on the latter, but not on the one with Unity. There are
more differences than the desktop environments of course, so I cannot
directly make any parallels. It is different audio hardware, for
instance.

with a new 11.10 wallpaper.
This is not necessary and should not be done.
It's fine to provide a wallpaper for new installations. But please

This should be fixed in the latest version of update-manager that got
deployed recently on the server. Could you please try the upgrade again?
If it fails, please check in /var/log/dist-upgrade/main.log that its
actually the latest version 0.152.25.1 that fixes this bug.
The site may be overloaded with the release, I raised this issue with
the server admins on #ubuntu-mirrors now.
