As far as I know only bash 4.0 does not have a workaround for this. In
bash 4.1 there exist an inputrc setting that can be used to turn off the
bug. Versions prior to 4.0 does not have this bug. Either the bugfix
should be backported, or karmic should be updated from bash 4.0 to bash

It doesn't really seem possible to disable plymouth. If you try and remove it
in synaptic, you would end up removing nearly the whole system due to its
dependencies on other things. I've found you can disable the plymouth splash,

sorry, i can't attach files 'cause i changed them and all works fine -
but sometimes i still encounter the bug with other - and now i can't
tell you details about crashes - they seem to appear randomly
i use ubuntu 10.10 x64 and open office spreadsheet

My previous comment was wrong, this is still a bug in 2.6.38 kernel.
I think this is critical because: if a person closes the laptop lid then
laptop won't enter stand-by mode, thus getting really hot and a non
techie person would not notice this, probably burning his laptop.

Nevermind, this is actually due to this Conflicts on the git package:

It's also currently due to the i386 build in Binary NEW. This will
probably be resolved on Monday.
