I am able to reproduce this on a Maverick amd64 system running a 2.2 GHz
Intel Core 2 Duo processor (by running the command "yelp ghelp:user-
guide" -- I cannot try running yelp with no arguments, since this system
is affected by Bug 433504). The CPU spikes to 100% for at least 4
seconds.

I am also able to reproduce it on a Natty i386 system (also with the
command "yelp ghelp:user-guide"). That system is a VMware Workstation
virtual machine with the 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo machine (running
Maverick amd64) as the host system. The Natty guest system runs yelp
2.30.2-0ubuntu1. The VMw
Could you please try after startup making an empty selection on the
desktop bakckground, and try it afterwards? I have the same issues, and
this workaround solved the problem in all cases, so if it solves it for

I am able to reproduce this bug on a Maverick i386 system with yelp
2.30.1-0ubuntu1. It seems that xref: links cannot be opened in new
windows, though other links can. An xref: link is a link to part of the
current document. The bug is probably due to yelp trying to open the
xref: link with respect

my 2 cents about that issue:
there are two cases on my end:
- a laptop dual booting windows+maverick (only): never met that issue
- a desktop with multi boot: windows+lucid+maverick+natty (all i386) and
sharing a single /home.
With this config i continuously get issues like related with this rep
I have just found that, in addition to the above, I experience this bug
when trying to open info pages with yelp. On my system, the following
succeeds:
yelp ghelp:user-guide
yelp man:gcc
But the following fails, producing this crash:
yelp
yelp info:gcc
(This is with gcc-doc installed...though w
Does this only happen on 2.6.37? This looks more like a hardware problem
to me.

I finally got my hands on a computer that could boot with Ubuntu 9.04 (the last
version of Ubuntu where this problem did not appear).
In Ubuntu 9.04 (gnome 2.26.1) the following entry does NOT exist in gnome
settings:

install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned
I have the same problem in Ubuntu 10.10.
The cause was upgrading emacs23 (and related packages) from 23.1-4ubuntu7 to
23.1-4ubuntu7.1+maverick1.
By downgrading, I solved this problem. However, I am sure that something is
wrong with the new package.
I would like developers to fix it.
