I've finally got around to upgrading my laptop (X301) to 10.10 and after
a bit of testing the issue seems to be resolved.
The fan now spins down to zero with no cpu activity (and if the ambient
temperature allows it).

i use Ubuntu 10.10 on an HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop. My problem is

Fresh install of 10.10 ubuntu, same problem, can't set full screen, the
assistant is too large too, can't see the next button until moving the
window on a 1024*600 resolution, if i set evolution fullscreen,
evolution is not usable, so it have to be run in windowed mode on 2
screens !

PS: under given evidence it would be very nice if this 2.6.36 kernel
could be taken as the kernel for the official 10.10 maverick
distribution, especially as all the 2.6.36-rc's belong to maverick
according to the mainstream kernel list..
