Karmic and upgraded to Lucid). The Gnome theming worked and my anti-
aliasing settings were remembered.
Then I followed the advice given in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Unity in

I could not reproduce the bug after a few reboots.
So I am also not sure what exactly caused it. Could be a one-off problem.

I took a look at alsamixer, and it would seem that Alsa thinks that my
left speaker is actually my front speaker, and the right is another

Plumber's. Anyway, I updated my Lucid installation, enabled proposed,
and booted the 2.6.32-26 kernel. I was met by the following error:

MJPG uses continuous fps, this is not very well supported in guvcview (in fact

Would be nice to be able to switch to the usual 12h format, because I'm
not used to 24h clocks. This makes it really hard to read and thus takes
away the big advantage that analogue clocks have.

How are you compiling the Ubuntu kernel source?
You will need to use dpkg as there will be a lot of debian/ubuntu patches to
the main source!
This will quite often leave you with errors like you got above.

sound and the machine cannot be rebooted or shut down, except by a
