The problems with the new ia32-libs breaks more than just skype, I am
having problems with flash (no sound), and the application 'Secondlife'
won't start (complains about wrong architecture, and installing
ia32-libs). Downgrading fixe's all my problems, the bug is with
ia32-libs being broken.

This is fine and all (I guess), but seahorse-plugins is not installed by
default (at least not on my desktop). I suppose this isn't a huge issue
since Lucid users upgrading won't see a regression, but people using
maverick for the last however many months may be confused.

I had this same problem and was able to work around the bug by clicking
"Skip" when the installer was configuring APT (the installer then
finished successfully) and then type the following commands on the
finished system from a terminal window:

cancellation regardless until there is a difference between the faders.
A pulseaudio volume meter showing levels for Internal Audio Analog
Stereo shows mic audio on bot
