I had 3 servers that are also affected by this.
Removing the resolvconf package somewhat worked but the resolv.conf did not get
cleaned, so the entries were added each restart.
The workaround to get them up more reliably was to put
"/etc/init.d/networking restart" into the "/etc/rc.local" file.

Unfortunately it did not work for me. Actually I did not turned the
screen on during boot. The screen remained blank all the time but I
could know that he boot was successful because I could hear the drums
sound when gdm kicks in. I had to move to the console with ctrl+f1 and
reboot with ctrl+alt+d

The best solution here would be to follow MPT's suggetion No. 1, in
theory this would be supported by the theme, and therefore there's space

This is still an issue for me. After upgrading from Hardy to Lucid the
authentication dialog just hangs after entering the password. This is
true for every application that is using authentication!

I experienced this on machine with 32 bit CPU so it's not 64 related.
What's more important, as far as I understand this error message has
more than one source and is related to several kernel vs hardware issue.
As for me, I have it fixed. But other people with other HW are still
suffering.

Ok tested. I will attach a log file that it said it made.
after all the steps it showed up on "plymouth show-splash"
restarted gdm it failed to show and upon reboot it also failed.
Ok seems it is an empty file
