I think this is the expected behavior of journalling file systems. When
you unmount a writable file system, the file system needs to write out a
marker saying that it was shut down "cleanly" and doesn't need a journal
recovery on the next mount.

If you do "ps -eaf | grep ubuntuone-client" you will always see one

Oh boy. I don't think this is a linux bug, this is intentional (Dell's
intention).
I just did a BIOS update on my Dell Latitude E6400 from version A14 to
A20. Version A20 doesn't generate keycode 227 anymore (as it did with
A14), it generates super-p (windows key + p). Super-p ("p" as in
projector
although model=generic works for the headphone jack, the balance and
volume functionality don't work -- they don't change. Using gnome volume
control to adjust the balance automatically makes the volume zero. Using
alsamixer does not change the volume levels to anything other than 99 or
100.

I understand it is by design. But both mpt and I think it looks weird.
It looks bland and uninteresting because it is so empty.

I have just tested with mainline 2.6.33 (2.6.34rc1 hangs during startup)
and I can confirm that the issue is still reproducible. That is, the
ALPS pointing device is detected as a plain PS/2 mouse.
I'll test with a lucid live cd shortly.
