Hello,
when I have composite turned on in my xfce4 (xfwm4), xscreensaver blinks
one frame after fadeing to black, before screensaver is run. If I
disable the composite, the one full-bright-frame blink won't occur.

Yeah, VLC crashed because there were two instances of the Qt4 UI plugin
in the same VLC. While VLC shouldn't crash, you should not do this.
Try to run:
$ vlc -I dummy --extraintf '' ---reset-config vlc://quit
and then things should work again.

Well, I found the cause. For some reason (unknown to me; that might be
an actual bug), the preferences of the client were changed to limit its
bandwidth, but the cap on upload and download speeds was set at 0
kb/sec. Disabling the bandwidth limit solved to problem.

I'd like to also add that putting in something like this isn't usually
by a motivated developer. It's by a developer whose told by his boss or
manager to implement this feature. This is why windows and mac os x has
a proper clipboard. The developers have to implement it or they're

Here are the reproducible steps that lead to the crash of xsane:
- boot and login
- start HPLIP GUI
- click on scan: xsane starts
- click on scan: all-in-one starts scanning, but then xsane disappears.
When I click on scan again, a window briefly pops up, but quickly
disappears, xsane is not runn
The only change I see in attached debdiff is moving of package
tuxguitar-oss from recommends to suggests. Are you sure this is correct
debdiff?

After some on-site work, we have determined that sound is indeed
working, however it is *extremely* faint. We will now follow the
directions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems/KarmicCaveats#Volume%20range%20anomalies
to see if this helps to make the audio loud enough.
