Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati
Read this on Phoronix: "If using the latest ATI open-source driver Git code for kernel mode- setting, there may be slightly better X-Video support without any visual slowdowns/problems. Pauli Nieminen has changed around the code so that a video buffer is allocated in the GTT (Graphics Translation Table) to provide faster memory operations that haven't been accelerated by KMS. The patch that provides the performance boost to X-Video under ATI kernel mode-setting can be found on the xorg-driver-ati mailing list and has since been committed." http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-driver-ati/2010-February/013827.html This would be great if it could be integrated/backported for Lucid, especially since XV-performance with the free drivers on Radeon 2600XT/PRO cards is really, really bad right now (Xorg using nearly 80-90% of a CPU-core of a 2,8GHz C2D when displaying 1080p video regardless of the player used). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- please backport "Allocate Xv buffers to GTT." from upstream for lucid https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/524548 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
