In /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/resume the swap drive UUID was not correct.
Hibernation will occur correctly, however on resume it will fail nearly
silently and proceed with a normal boot instead. The only indication will be
"PM: Resume from disk failed." in dmesg.
To fix, correct the UU
Well this is interesting. I installed Fortunato's package and the
brightness panel applet now works. I also modified the file and the
FN+up / down keys for brightness control don't work, however ALT+up /
down now control brightness (!). I removed the PPA as other packages
risked being upgraded.

These three files should be placed in debian/ and then 'dh_installman'
added after 'dh_strip' in the debian/rules file for the man pages to be
added correctly. Also I don't know if the man pages belong in man1, man2
