Same problem for me (Ubuntu 9.10 + Firefox 3.5.7 on Acer Aspire One 110,
intel GMA + Compiz).
My work around is to open an new window and then closing it (ctrl+n,
ctrl+w). After that auto completion starts working again in my original
window. (The new window opened also has working auto completion
not fixed for me with the proposed cairo package.

I found what looks like an effective workaround for this on my ASUS EEE
900A. The trick is to modify /etc/pulse/default.pa and add "tsched=0"

I asked Support at System 76 about the problem and he said to re-install
9.10 with a CD in Safe Graphics mode.
Is it the driver because before I up-graded the vilualization worked
great in Rhythmbox.

lucid is greatly improving. after the recent updates, the desktop can load with
default settings (24 bits, KMS, no xorg.conf) it's a bit slow though, xv output
doesn't work in gstreamer, gksu faded background is garbled, mouse hover over
notifications is flickery.

Thank you for bringing this bug to our attention. However, a paper cut
should be a small usability issue , in the default Ubuntu 9.10 install ,
that affects many people and is quick and easy to fix. So this bug can't
be addressed as part of the project.
