I see the same issue, it occurs for all applications listed in the library,
none will install and all fail silently. Using Apt-get or synaptic works fine.
All other buttons in the software center seem to work fine, its just the
'install' button and drop down menu item that do nothing.

seconds for Ubuntu to freeze completely. Even the Alt+Sysreq REISUB

It worked fine for me with the alsa module, but maybe that was the
