Hi Gene, Usually when I boot I've turned off visual effects so I had to turn it on to check your comment. After turning it on it took around 5/10 seconds for Ubuntu to freeze completely. Even the Alt+Sysreq REISUB magic key combination doesn't work... I had to reboot and then check syslog and kern.log. On those files I don't see any garbled text, only the following error messages from the moment I've activated visual effects:
