trouble booting newer kernels but can't boot an older kernel because of this

I have solved my problem.
Deleting /etc/ati and reinstalling the ati driver did not help. although the
/etc/ati directory got created, there was nothing in it.
swapping hard disks, creating a clean install of Ubuntu, updating & installing
the hardware driver, then copying amdpcsdb and amdpcsdb.de
Tried it -- Ubuntu Karmic finally works out of the box on the HD 3650
radeon! I haven't been able to use the Live CD since Hardy, so this is
great. No graphical issues at all when I load up. Thanks.
