Moving the .asoundrc file did not solve the problem.
It seems that the automatic attachments of the bug report does not
contain a "dmesg" output
I attached the output of command:
dmesg | grep -i hda >> dmesg.txt

Update: I reverted to version 2.0beta of the betavine driver that worked under
Jaunty this morning due to massive connect problems with network manager as
well the betavine program.
Now it works but conflicted the whole Ubuntu One folder again.

Right managed to sort the problem, after 3 years of trying.

Thank you for looking into this. I checked backed up syslog messages
when the computer still ran Jaunty. Jaunty also detected a floppy
drive while booting but I can't remember it showing up in Gnome. Would
it help if I checked how the computer is wired internally? Maybe the
fd controller is connect
Also affected by this, I use my laptop in lectures and was bitten by
this sound today in the middle of a lecture.
Please revive at least some of the GDM1 configuration options.

Software eject works fine but the problem is that the hardware button doesn't
eject the cd anymore until it is unmounted or similar.

As I experienced the same bug, I tryed to get the Information you need.
But I'm not very sure it will be Ok cause synaptic seems to throw
another process. And that one is the one that hangs.

duplicate of bug #461762, so is being marked as such. Please loo
it renders correctly here, maybe I have more fonts installed than you...
can you please check if installing ttf-mscorefonts-installer or gsfonts fixes
this issue for you?

I'm seeing this too on an EeePC 900 with an intel i915 card. The problem
is reproducible every time (just doing something like xranr --auto with
the external monitor plugged in triggers it for me). Interestingly if I
use a 2.6.32-rc kernel then I am still able to switch VTs (which I am
not able to
