Public bug reported:
Binary package hint: unbound
The unbound package from Debian is not linked into libevent - despite
being in the archive.
This limits the number of FDs to 1024, which is not a lot of use in a
large scale environment.

It looks like you have bigger issues with your installation (not just
samba). Relevant error:
mv: cannot move `/var/run/samba/upgrades/smb.conf' to
`/VAR/RUN/SAMBA/UPGRADES/SMB.CONF': No such file or directory
Install/upgrade will fail. To recover, please try:
sudo cp /usr/share/samba/smb.conf
Replacing /bin/bash with /bin/dash does not show anymore errors. Sounds
like an upstream bash bug, not a kernel bug

The problem is, that this solution doesn't anymore work for Karmic 9.10. What
to do with the bug in order to reach correct developer to make it work for
upcoming release?
What can I try to make the scanner work again in Ubuntu Karmic 9.10?

sane doesn't recognize Epson DX7450 scanner out of t
warp,
that is excellent news. Thank you for following up on this. I'll adjust
this case to Fix Released. Please adjust this bug if that turns out not to be
the case.
Thanks again,

i am thinking if this is a server side issue with my account? Does
anyone else have any issues - or possibly mine is a corner case where-in
the client got screwed - however there must be some way to do get this
working without doing a complete OS re-install

I have the same problem on karmic with the radeon (opensource) driver
and a Mobility Radeon X700 card.
Enabling KMS and subsequently dri2 solves the problem, i.e. the game
area is visible again. However a similar message still comes up:
