Thanks for working on this bug. I have tested the AMD64 kernel under
KVM and haven't seen the error messages.
I am not running any production VMs using karmic at this stage, so
simulating real load wasn't possible. I did run dd with it dumping 25G

I ran memory test several times and it found nothing fault. I have
1G+1G+2g+2G memory chips. I took those 1Gs out and now fsck can be ran.
Maybe this was hardware error even memory test doesn't show anything.

you're right: you are not allowed to use a string as color. As I said
before converting the string to rgb colorConverter.to_rgb("red") doesn't
segfault.

Just to comment on those words "to re-boot by power button".
Emergency rebooting simply by cutting the power off is not a healthy way.
If you have ext4 file system, it may also cause data loss.
Please try to reboot by pressing keys (one at a time):

I can confirm that Epsux' solution works. A new kernel with the
mentioned patch reverted solved my problem.

I don't think this should be a Rhythmbox bug. It's more of a notify-osd
bug. Notify OSD should be scaling it automatically and displaying it.
