Yep me too. After install I'm having the same problem with multiple
applications. I tried setting the root password using $sudo su passwd$ and
also tried setting it in the user dialog. It still doesn't work. Your hack
works, but I agree something is wrong with the user privilage settings.

I could see the rationale in the choices made by the UX team regarding the

I don't want to speak too soon, but my issues seem to have drastically
improved (resolved?).
I can't say what did it - a recent update or just coincidence. One
thing I have changed is stop using avant-window-navigator. Since I did
test under a new user without any desktop effects (completely sto
easy work around for this bug, is just to "rmmod dell-laptop" and add it
to /etc/modprobe.d/dell-laptop.conf

Just tried the patch from upstream (posted by sebseb01) on a pinnacle
320cx express card, and everything is working as expected. I recompiled
the whole V4L-DVB stack from mercurial, and the patch was already

Starting from 2.6.31-12 ( package 'linux-image-2.6.31-11-generic
2.6.31-11.38' is still ok ) the kernel started crashing for me.
When I say crashing, I mean I choose it from Grub's list, I see a black screen
( not a sing
Mikael, what is happening there at 67s? Like 5 acpid power events. And 3
at 129s. Definitely something wrong. hdparm -B 254 is being set all the
time, but never the -B 128 which would happen if AC was disconnected.
Can you please file a new bug, since that is a separate issue? Attach
your /var/log/

The problem is that cryptsetup isn't guaranteed to be installed, and upstart
doesn't give a straightforward way for gdm to wait on cryptsetu

Trying to reproduce the problem to generate those logs, it seems there
is more to it; Here is what I did: I removed the nvidia driver and
rebooted. With both screens attached, as "expected", I got the graphical
corruption (on both screens), and was unable to log in or or open a
terminal with contro

It doesn't change with 2.6.31-13-generic #44 - on a EeePC 900A with upgrade
RAM/SSD disk.
For me, It's usualy freeze between fsck and setting up the resolver. And once
again while launching the first session - doesn't matter if it's UNR or not
(I've both setup).
