I attach my current xorg.conf file, which was autogenerated by nvidia-

What model of the HP do you have? I could reproduce this issue
consistently with the HP Compaq nc6120, however the motherboard had
problems with the USB ports, (all four models in stock had this problem)
and now I have a nc6220 and do not have this problem. I have not looked
