Well, "never" cleared isn't quite correct...
/var/run is cleared on every reboot. So at the very worst, those
items are removed on reboot.
That said, I can see where this might be a problem on Jaunty. But it
should never be a problem in Karmic.
Can you try to reproduce there? I think this bug

After i installed xorg driver with no backfill functionality, I was good
to go. Except that suspend and hibernate doesn't with with desktop
effects enabled.

Although for me I get to the xsplash x I am assuming crashes and it drop
back to trying to log in and you get the xsplash screen again and this

There's nothing libnotify to this bug, except maybe having apps sending
screen numbers with notifications, but to me that seems wrong. The
daemon needs to make sure notifications are staying on the screen for
the correct amount of time, and are displayed on the right screen (which

@ilna, cups runs as root now, so no need to make the printer owned by lp
group, I guess.
For me, it kind of works but not quite: the printer it is not detected.
If I replace /etc/cups/printers.conf with the old one (where I had the printer
configured) and restart cups, then it appears in the list

Completely removing the old kernels (rather than just removing from GRUB

I'm also concerned by this bug on a Dell OptiPlex GX520 with intel
integrated graphics GMA 950 and Compiz and every packages up to date.
(And it's very annoying when you were working on a sheet of ultra
secrets passwords before locked-in your screen)

I'm having the same experience in Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 4: resuming from
sleep or hibernation using the Xorg nvidia driver does not work, whereas
it works using the non-free driver.

i have a similar problem than: "Screen & Keyboard Crashes/hangs but CPU
continues to work".
It is a rather new Netbook (Gigabyte T1028M) with Intel 945GSE graphics
chipset. All hardware works pretty fine in ubuntu (unr) except the touchpad
