+1. Had to install (9.04) by removing laptop hard disk to USB caddy,
then use 2nd PC to install (laptop has broken cdrom + won't boot from
USB) This worked fine* however, the laptop has French keyboard layout,
but on boot to fresh install on laptop, X and console are still US

I second this. By now you need to use a grub-gfxboot package from
another distribution when you want to use grub-gfxboot. This leads to
problems when updating the kernel because Ubuntu uses another syntax in
the /boot/grub/menu.lst than the distributions from which you can take

The only way I can reproduce this bug is to:
- compile pdf2djvu with poppler 0.11.0;
- upgrade to poppler 0.11.1.
That's because poppler 0.11.1 broke both API and ABI without bumping SONAME.
pdf2djvu < 0.5.11 even FTBFS with the unstable version of poppler.

Since it happens with the ubuntu and mainline kernel I was afraid it could be
due to kernel 2.6.31.
I just did a quick test and installed openSuse 11.2 Milestone 6, wich comes
