I also sufffered from this bug in 0.10.0.
I decided to upgrade to digiKam 1.0.0 beta3 and this did the trick: my photos
are back.
There is however another annoying bug in this release: default sorting by date
does not work. I will raise a new bugreport for that.

FWIW, this appears to be the same problem (at least it produces the same
symptoms) as http://madwifi-project.org/ticket/1773 and
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10605 (the latter is
supposedly fixed though).

Ditto, same behavior in Diablo 2, Painkiller, and Dungeon Siege 2. To
alt tab back in I have to double click the upper left corner, once i've
alt tabbed back to the wine app.
But there is no seeing other apps on the way, fullscreen hijack as
described above.
