I also suffer this Bug, my memory column just disappear... This is
frustrating.
Maybe, the problem is from Upgrades.. Cause in 8.10 i didn't have the
problem, just after the upgrade to 9.04 this bug appeared...

When the newest kernel was released in Karmic nvidia-glx-173 fails to load
properly.
This is on a Jaunty upgrade to Karmic. Removing and purging the drivers and
everything related to nvidia than installing *-173 still fails to run.
