Sorry, I don't know what package this pertains to, but on my laptop (IBM
ThinkPad G41) running Ubuntu 9.04 it has started having the following
problem. When I switch desktops (whether using the icons on the toolbar
or the keyboard shortcut) the desktop will switch, but there
I do experience something similar to your problem, and I have found that
it is because disk failures. You could use dd from a livecd (or
smartctl) to see if your problem has the same source as mine.

What this tells us is that this is actually a bug in glib2.0 function

Marking 'won't fix' against screen-profiles. The package has been
renamed to 'byobu'. I'm marking it against that package. I believe
that this is fixed in karmic. I'll do a bit more testing and ensure
that it's fixed there.

This was posted a long time ago, but frustrates me every time I use
moto4lin to get photos off my phone.
Whenever you want photos off Moto4Lin, you need to run it as root --
which then ends up copying your photos/videos/audio to your HD as owner
root as well. Then you need to "sudo chown user user
